California Waiting

30 01 2009

I rarely ever find quality Alternative/Rock/Pop bands these days.  That’s mainly because just about all of todays music is garbage, along with every rap song.  Which is why I have been steered toward just listening to the great classic rock songs and most hard rock songs for so long.  There are very little “soft” rock bands that I will listen to.  You have your Collective Soul, Blue October,  Weezer, The Killers are pretty good, the Toadies, plus very few others.  There is just so few good bands that are out there in the “soft” rock part of town.  Most of it is full with Fall Out Boy garbage ( I hate Fall Out Boy with a passion) and other bands that are replicas of them.  Like I said, there is a shortage of quality bands out there. I am glad to say, I can add a new band to my list.

While at home during my Christmas/New Years break from college, two of my friends introduced me to a band called Kings of Leon. I had heard OF this band before, but never really listen to any of their songs because I always thought they were just one of those Fall Out Boy replicas.  So I always just ignored them if I ever came across one of their songs.   Like I said, my two friends introduced me to them one day.  I was still undecided of them at that time so, again, I just ignored and went on my way.  About two weeks after that, I decided to look them up and give them a try.  It turned out, their songs were damn good.  They have that Classic Rock sound.  Its just like they came right out of the 70’s/80’s, just with a new rock kind of twist.  They are like the new generation’s classic rock band, to explain it easier.  When my friends tried to explain this to me, I didn’t understand it, but once I sat down and listened, I saw the goodness.  And, I loved the goodness.

I did want to think these two for helping me see the light. If it wasn’t for them, I would have never seen the awesomeness of the Kings of Leon. So, thank you for that.  I did want to also pass on the greatness to everyone else, just keep the cycle going.  So, with that being said, let me said this now:  Give this band a chance, you will enjoy every bit of it.  If you enjoy classic rock at all, you will enjoy this band.  I even want to send an invite out to those who listen to those Fall Out Boy bands to give the Kings of Leon a try, in hope that they will turn over a new leaf and give up on the trash.  I do have one advisory though.  My two friends told me to stay away from one song of their’s because it is bad.  Their exact words were that it would ruin everything if I listened to it.  It would ruin all of their greatness.  So, I did what I was told, and I have never listened to it.  I hope you will do the same.  The song’s name is Charmer.  Stay away.  Please, stay away.  You all have been warned.

Other than that, the rest of their songs are awesome.  I would like to suggest a few for you to listen to, just a few of my favorites.  If you go to their myspace page, or you can click on their name above, you can listen to most of their songs, including the ones I am about to suggest.  The songs “Ragoo” and “Red Morning Light” are pretty good.  To get a little better you can listen to “Molly’s Chambers”.  Also, “Sex On Fire” is good.  I actually enjoy it a lot.  A little funny too.   The main song I would like to suggest you listen to, is , obviously, my favorite by them.  Its called California Waiting. Just click the link and go to it, if it doesn’t work you can just go to their myspace just like you did above.  California Waiting, I feel, is one of their better songs.  It also reminds me of the TV show Californication with David Duchovny (guy from X-Files incase you just didn’t know), which is by the way one of the best shows on TV today, check it out on Showtime or online.  Its not just the name of the song that reminds me off it, the beat to the song as well as most of the lyrics just reminds me of the show.  The beat just fits the show to me.  It feels like it should be the theme song.  I feel this song, as well as the show, is one of the best songs by them.  You should really check it out, as well as the rest of their songs, and the show Californication.  Everything that was mentioned you should check out because they are great.
